Course Description
This is an introductory course for students with a strong interest in horticulture. Careers in the industry are covered as well as basic plant systems and pest control. The student will be introduced to the areas of greenhouse management, nursery management, and landscaping.

Syllabus
The following is a rough estimate of the amount of time we will spend on each unit in the class. Introduction to Horticulture is a semester class therefore time will seem limited in certain areas. The amount of time spend is broken down into hours.
Unit 1: Introduction to Horticultural Science 5 hours
Unit 2: Safety in Horticulture 5 hours
Unit 3: Classifying and Naming Plants 5 hours
Unit 4: Plant Science 15 hours
Unit 5: Plant Growth 10 hours
Unit 6: Plant Propagation 5 hours
Unit 7: Pest Management 5 hours
Unit 8: Container-grown Plants 5 hours
Unit 9: Using Plants in the Landscape 5 hours
